WHEN DESIGN MEETS ART
On Sunday 10th November, the awaited talk “When Design meets Art. A conversation between Italy and China”, curated by Annalisa Rosso, Editorial Director & Cultural Events Advisor of Milan Furniture Fair (Salone del Mobile di Milano), was held at The Orbit.
The event offered a unique multidisciplinary point of view, exploring how the relationship between art and design can open new ways for creativity and innovation in a global context that sees Italy and China as protagonists.
THE NEW POINT OF VIEWS UNVEILED IN THE DIALOGUE
Important international figures in the world of art and design had a conversation on the stage. The Chinese designer Wu Bin, well-known for his unique style “Modern Orientalism”, illustrated his aesthetic point of view that mixes eastern and western
furniture and artworks.
Bin, inspired by Chinese traditional ink paintings and deep connection with nature, integrates materials, colours and proportions in compositions which reflect the new lifestyle scenarios for the contemporary Chinese general public.
Next to Wu Bin, Feng Cao, founder of 20C Gallery and collector, shared his aesthetic point of view: inspired by iconic pieces of Italian design during the period between fifties and eighties, Cao creates connections, celebrating artisanship and cultural heritage like key elements for creating a better future.
MATILDE CASSANI’S SPEECH
The debate was enriched by Matilde Cassani’s presence, an Italian architect and artist, who works between visual art and design. Cassani described his experiences related to the artistic designs creation and installations that link visual communication and spatial performances, suggesting a recent original and authorial look on spaces and architectures.
FUSION BETWEEN MODERNITY AND TRADITION
“When Design meets Art. A conversation between Italy and China” proposed itself as an occasion of dialogue between East and West, of meeting between spiritual aspect and a reality, daily one, in an international context where tradition and modernity fuse together for giving life to new creative opportunities, in the background of intercultural and creative dialogue between two of the most influent design traditions of the world.
