THE EMPTINESS

Elena Salmistraro, one of the most eccentric and recognised voices of contemporary design, will present the first personal exhibition – Alchemies in the Emptiness, curated by Silvana Annichiarico – from 28 th November 2024 in Antonio Colombo Gallery.
A fascinating itinerary between design, art and experimentation of matter, where the concept of emptiness becomes a place of creative and alchemical transformation.
THE EXHIBITION
Alchemies in the Emptiness is a relationship between opposites, a meeting between absence and presence, visible and invisible where a series of installations and works blend design, sculpture and artistic
handcraft.
Elena Salmistraro explores the concept of emptiness like a creative matrix, a fertile field where new styles and meanings come alive. Her works, characterised by an incessant research of balance between form, colour and texture, evoke a visionary story that is firmly anchored to collective imagination and personal mythologies of the artist.

The exhibition will be articulated through an itinerary, where ceramic, glass and metal get along with original concrete alchemies, giving life to a symbolic and poetic universe which embraces sinuous and organic forms, typical of Salmistraro’s expressive style. The exhibited works play with the contrast between smooth and irregular surfaces, intense colours and heavenly transparencies, creating an immersive environment where the visitor is attracted to think about what is hidden behind the apparent absence.
WHO IS ELENA SALMISTRARO
Elena Salmistraro, known for her multidisciplinary approach where design blends into art, like in fashion and in
illustration, has exhibited her works in prestigious international contexts, including Milan Furniture Fair, La Triennale di Milano and Barcelona’s Design Museum. Her works are part of private and museum collections around the world and her distinctive style has influenced new generations of designers and creators.
